Who He is

Craig Koss is the Owner/Operator and Private Investigator of Coarsegold Private Security & Investigation.

He began his public safety career in 1980 as an Airport Police Officer with the City of San Jose before becoming a Park Ranger with the Hayward Area Recreation & Park District in 1982. 

In 1984 he became an Institutional Police Sergeant for the San Francisco Institutional Police Department and converted to the position of Sheriff Sergeant after the two Departments merged. He retired in 2007 at the robust age of 50.

 

His primary assignments during his law enforcement career included, but were not limited to, the following:

Watch Commander (Supervisor) of Patrol, Training Manager, Field Training Sergeant,  Investigations, Crime Prevention, Dignitary Protection, Bicycle Patrol Unit Supervisor, and Administrative Sergeant.

In 1990, as the Training Manager, he was instrumental in developing and implementing the first formal structured Field Training Program for law enforcement services serving the unique needs and challenges at SFGHMC and the City & County of San Francisco Department of Public Health. Now 20 years later, the Field Training Program has trained over 150 members and continues to be the gold standard used to train newly assigned Deputies for the SF Sheriff's Department Institutional Patrol Unit.

During his law enforcement career he earned several honors including a Citation for Exemplary Performance for duties performed during the earthquake of October 17, 1989 and it's aftermath.

Upon his retirement in 2007 he was honored with a Proclamation from the Mayor of the City & County of San Francisco, and a Certificate of Honor from the Health Commissioners of the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

In the private field, he has been a State licensed Private Investigator and Private Patrol Operator since 1989. He was the Owner/Operator and Private Investigator of San Lorenzo Patrol & Investigation Service located in the San Francisco bay area. 

Upon his retirement from public service he relocated his private business and changed the name to Coarsegold Private Security & Investigation.

My goals are to provide each client with true peace of mind and to work to the best of my ability in making Coarsegold and the surrounding communities an even safer place for us all to work and live.

When my case load exceeds my ability to give your situation my complete attention, I am assisted by other professional retired peace officers and investigators.
